Greenway Soccer Field in Brookhaven, Georgia

Big things are happening in the state of Georgia. Although not unaccustomed to holding major events, such as big name artists or huge sports teams, Georgia has not recently hosted anything as big as the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. However, even that event saw a boom in industry and economy, and due to the rate that Atlanta, Georgia is growing both economically and socially, people are always seemingly moving there. The influx of people has seen increases in both economy and traffic, and although it has always been a busy city, Atlanta is without a doubt growing faster and larger every year. From the start, Atlanta was destined for great things, and being the hub of international transportation to being a center for business, Atlanta is a place all travelers and tourists eventually pass by.

The growth experienced will not stop there, however. Due to high interests and business, Atlanta is looking to improve and build infrastructure that can support the city's prestige. From freshly paved highways to new buildings, the City is always trying to find ways to grow. An area within Atlanta that is receiving special attention right now is the northern part of Atlanta. Recently, the City has launched an ambitious initiative that aims to enhance urban connectivity and promote sustainable living. Dubbed the Peachtree Creek Greenway Project, this multi-step plan aspires to connect the northeastern suburbs of Atlanta all the way to Central Atlanta and the Beltline, extending almost 20 miles. The trail will connect various neighborhoods, parks, commercial districts, and more. Although in the very early stages, work has already started to progress the Project, and part of that entails the City of Brookhaven, located a little more than 11 miles from Atlanta, soliciting competitive bids from qualified contractors for the Project, which include cover grading of an existing cleared are for the construction of an open space soccer field that will double as an athletic field within their city. Additional work for the proposal includes, but is not limited to, minor underbrush removal, grubbing, and grassing.

The project aims to connect Atlanta and make it more walkable and transversal, but the addition of the field will come in time for Atlanta's next big sporting event: the World Cup. Coming to Atlanta in 2026, the global tournament has selected Atlanta as one of it's host cities, bringing global attention and acclaim to the heart of the South. The tournament will bring tourists and travelers from all over the world, all passionate and die hard soccer fans. Noticeably, the city is lacking in available field space, and when you are hosting such a prestigious tournament for the world's most popular sport, fields are necessary. Many of those fans outside of supporting their countries will want to places to hang out and kick the ball around, and hopefully this park in Brookhaven will help accomplish that. Beyond the tournament, it offers a place along the future trail to stop and play the beautiful game and represents an early opportunity for the city to capitalize and grow a sport that so much of the country and youth are dedicating more and more time to.
